TAU PAN CAMP

Tau Pan Camp is one of the very few safari camps located in the enormous Central Kalahari Game Reserve and has been designed to blend in with and compliment the game reserve. The Central Kalahari Game Reserve is presently the largest game reserve in the world and has only recently been opened to the public,as a result the Central Kalahari is one of Africa’s last true wilderness areas a place of solitube, big skies and wide open spaces.

Tau Pan Camp is located on the edge of Tau Pan in a beautiful and wildlife rich area of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. The main area contains a viewing deck, lounge, dining area, library, curio shop and pool. The rooms and the main area are connected by sand path walkways. Tau Pan Camp is solar- powered with a generator back-up.

Tau Pan Camp is situated on a sand ridge overlooking a permanent water hole. Tau Pan Camp features eight custom designed chalets including one family chalet that are thatched with insulated walls to stay cool in the heat and warm in the cold. All rooms have ceiling fans, outside showers and private viewing decks.

Activities at Tau Pan Camp include twice daily game drives and guests can also enjoy a guided walk with San Bushmen for whom the Central Kalahari is home and who will be pleased to share their unique culture with you.

From November to March the rains fall and during these summer rains the Kalahari transforms as the plains and pans burst with flowers and sweet grass. Migratory species including zebra and wildebeest return to graze in their thousands inevitably followed by their predators including lion, cheetah, hyena and wild dog.

During the dry season, May to September, the area retains many resident species that, together with the predators, congregate close to any surface water and pans. There is abundant bird life including the Kori Bustard and the commonly seen Black Korhaan there are also large flocks of ostrich.

Tau Pan Camp is in a national park and an ecologically sensitive area and for this reason there is no driving off road or at night.

Tau Pan Camp will combine very well with Kwara Camp in the Okavango Delta, Lebala or Lag oon Camp in the Linyanti Wetlands and few days at Stanley Safari Lodge in Victoria Falls in a superb safari circuit.
