Good planning is essential for a great safari holiday, it is important to chose the right country and destination and even more importantly the right style of safari and safari lodges and camps. Safari Club consultants have seen and experienced our African destinations first hand ensuring our clients are correctly advised when planning a visit to the few truly unspoilt and pristine destinations left in the world.

The main African Countries offering high quality big game photographic safaris are:

Botswana: The Okavango Delta and the Chobe and Moremi game reserves offer undoubtedly some of the best game viewing in Africa. Botswana has superb wildlife and fabulous scenery. With a low visitor density, Botswana offers an incomparable, high quality safari experience. Botswana has good year round game viewing, with, the less well known game reserves of the Central Kalahari and Makgadikgadi Salt Pans at their most prolific during the green season. Although Botswana has a reputation for being expensive the country can be visited during the green season months from December to March at a very reasonable cost.

Kenya: Famous for the annual wildebeest migration in the Maasai Mara between July and October. Kenya also has many other less well known Game Reserves, fantastic scenery and culture and superb tropical beaches. Kenya can be visited at any time but the game viewing is seasonal so it important to get good advice on where to go. Kenya has a well developed infrastructure and is only 8.5 hrs flying time from Europe making it the closest African safari country to Europe.

Namibia: Is very different to the other safari countries and has quite stunning scenery and interesting culture. Namibia is famous for its desert adapted wildlife and also has more traditional big five game viewing in Etosha National Park. Namibia has good infrastructure and is best visited on a self drive or privately guided tour. The country can be visited at any time but is very warm from October to February. As distances between the main tourist attractions in Namibia are long we would suggest two to three weeks for your visit.

South Africa: Has a long tradition of conservation of African Wildlife and as a result the principal National Parks such as Kruger are very well stocked and have superb biodiversity. The unfenced private game reserves adjacent to Kruger offer the best safari experience. South Africa has much more than just wildlife and a holiday here can incorporate a huge range of alternative attractions, it really is a world in one country. South Africa can be visited at any time of year and with excellent internal, regional and international flight connections is easy to visit.

Malawi: Is a charming little country with friendy people and stunning scenery. The biggest attraction in Malawi is Lake Malawi with its sandy beaches, tropical fish and lakeside fishing villages. Malawi has some good National Parks and is a great place to see rural African life as it really is. We normally suggest that Safari Club clients combine a visit to Malawi with a safari to nearby South Luangwa National Park in Zambia for a great all round holiday experience.

Tanzania: Is a huge country, a large part of which is set aside as National Parks and Conservation Areas. Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Selous game Reserves are rightly world famous and Tanzania has many other National Parks, some of which are very remote and wild.  The game viewing in some parks in Tanzania is seasonal so it is important to plan your safari correctly to take into consideration the seasonal game movements. In addition to Tanzania's game reserves there are superb beaches on the mainland and the tropical Indian Ocean Islands of Zanzibar, Mafia and Pemba.

Uganda: Uganda is a friendly little country with wonderful scenery and suprisingly diverse wildlife. The main attraction of a visit to Uganda is to see at close quarters the highly endangered mountain gorillas at Bwindi and other primates including chimpanzees. The country does have many other National Parks with excellent genaral game, superb birdlife and also boasts the Victoria Nile and the famous Murchison Falls. The people are very friendly and the scenery stunning. Uganda is very different to the more traditional East and Southern African Safari Destinations.

Zambia: Is the least well known of the main Safari Countries, which is its attraction. Zambia has superb National Parks with few visitors and excellent wildlife. The three best known and most accessible parks are Kafue National Park, Lower Zambezi National Park and South Luangwa National Park, all of which are based on major river systems and are easy to access. Zambia is the place for walking safaris and these are an exciting alternative to more traditional game driving. Zambia also has Victoria Falls one of the wonders of the world and a centre for a whole host of exciting holiday experiences. Zambia is best visited between June and October when the cost of a top quality safari is half what you would expect to pay in nearby Botswana.

Whichever country and area you choose we are sure that the magic of Africa will hold you in thrall calling you back again and again
