Mozambique
Mozambique is a new and fast developing tourist destination, now peaceful after many years of post colonial strife; the country has one of the fastest growing economies in Africa and will undoubtedly be a major tourist destination in the future.
The country is blessed with fabulous palm fringed beaches, lush tropical islands, barely explored and pristine coral reefs and a number of game reserves which are just beginning to open up to the first tourists for many years.
Safari Club feature Vamizi Island part of Maluane in the Quirimbas Archipeligo which is the largest eco-tourism project in northern Mozambique . This project features luxurious adventure tourism on land and at sea with the empowerment of local communities and the protection of endangered species. Maluane offers a unique combination of game viewing, beautiful beaches and remote islands.
Other beautiful Islands in the Quirimbas include, Medjumbe, Matemo and Ibo Island. The Quirimbas Archipeligo make a wonderful bush and beach combination with a safari in Southern Tanzania as there are good flight connections are with Dar Es Salaam.
The marine fauna includes dugongs, humpback whales and turtles as well as many fish and coral species whilst in the Messalo wildlife area on the mainland there are Elephant, buffalo lion, leopard, wild dog hippo, sable and other antelope species.
Activities include scuba diving, fly and big game fishing also dhow trips and kayaks on the Island of Vamizi and game drives on the mainland.
In the south of Mozambique are the equally beautiful and slightly better known Islands of the Bazaruto Archipeligo which are accessible from Johannesburg and easily combined with a Safari in South Africa, Botswana or Zambia.
Mozambique has a warm tropical climate and it is best to avoid the wetter more humid months, therefore the best time to visit Mozambique is between April and October.
