RUAHA RIVER LODGE

The Great Ruaha River is the lifeline of the Park; we can offer you the privilege of your own riverside ‘banda’ designed to blend seamlessly into the surroundings. The local stone and thatch room has minimal impact on the environment and game viewing from your veranda is a relaxing and enthralling option.

Your hosts, Peter and Sarah Fox have an in-depth knowledge of the park and its inhabitants having lived in and and Ruaha all of their lives; together with their team of guides, they will ensure that you will want your stay in Ruaha to go on forever.

Ruaha lies in the convergence zone where northern and southern hemisphere mammals and migrant birds overlap. This results in an overwhelming number of different bird species (488 recorded species nearly half that found in the entire country) and over 1400 plant species which lead to a correspondingly large number of mammals.

The vast area of the park (13000km2) varies between mountains and escarpments, grassland plains, rocky kopjes and riverine areas. With such a choice of habitat it is not surprising that a wide diversity of mammal species make Ruaha their home.

You will rarely meet any other vehicles on your game drives around Ruaha’s extensive and well-maintained road network. Our highly trained English speaking guides will lead you to an abundance of leopard, lion, cheetah and hunting dog, not to mention several rare species including Greater and Lesser Kudu, Roan and Sable antelopes.

As you tread cautiously through the bush, your senses are acutely attuned to the strong smells of the African wilderness and the close presence of game.

This mid range camp is often combined in an exciting flying safari circuit with Rufiji River Camp or Selous Impala Camp in Selous Game Reserve and a few days on the beach in Zanzibar.
