Semliki Wildlife Valley Reserve

Semliki is where East Africa meets West and is a natural haven for wildlife. Here the savannah is criss-crossed by shining river valleys, and the escarpment which forms the edge of the Western Rift Valley, plunges into Lake Albert. The habitat diversity, riverine forest, woodland and savannah within the reserve supports a huge array of fauna including lion, leopard, elephant (both savannah and forest species) buffalo, and chimpanzees.

Situated within the remote Semliki Valley the park protects an extension of the Congo's vast Ituri rainforest.

The park is of particular interest to birdwatchers since a high proportion of the 400 bird species recorded here, are thought to occur nowhere else in Uganda, many being essentially Congolese species.

The Sempaya Hot Springs named after the river what forms the Congolese border are also situated in the park.
The forested area harbours many mammals ranging from elephant to chimps and the more localized De Brazza's monkey.

Formerly known as the Toro Game Reserve this large reserve adjoining the site of the Sempaya Hot Springs has a large variety of plains game including giraffe that have made this part of the Nile their regular watering hole.

A Uganda safari circuit could combine Semliki with Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kidepo Valley and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to make a very varied and exciting safari holiday in Uganda.
