Victoria Falls - Zambia

Victoria Falls known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya which translates as “The Smoke that Thunders” are without doubt one of the worlds true wonders. No trip to this part of Africa is complete without marvelling at the constantly changing waters, getting soaked by the spray, or capturing the famous rainbows on film to show to friends back home.

The Falls are 1.7 km wide and over 100 metres high, at peak times 10 million litres of water plunge over the edge every second. Below the Falls the waters of the Zambezi are forced between the towering cliffs of the Batoka gorge creating a series of rapids which offer world-class white water rafting.

The tourist infrastructure in this area is well developed with a huge range of exciting activities available to suit every taste including Microlight, helicopter and small aircraft flights over the Falls, bungee jumping from the Victoria Falls road bridge into the gorge, canoeing down the Zambezi above the Falls, sundowner cruises on the  Zambezi river as well as fishing trips in search of the formidable tiger fish. Other activities include Golf, Horse riding, elephant back walks and gambling in the casino.

The area is close to Chobe game reserve in Botswana and Hwange in Zimbabwe both of which make for an excellent day trip. There is quite lot of game in the Victoria Falls area and Elephants and other wildlife are regularly spotted on the roads and on river trips along the Zambezi River.

A Victoria Falls Safari can form part of an exciting safari circuit with the Zambian Game reserves of Kafue National Park, South Luangwa and Lower Zambezi or with Botswanas Chobe, Linyanti and Okavango Delta Circuit.

We offer a choice of four and five star hotels located close to the Falls with all the usual facilities. For those who would prefer a smaller more tranquil location we offer several excellent luxury lodges, located along the Zambezi River both above and below Victoria Falls.

There is no best time to visit Victoria Falls, they are magnificent at any time. They are at their most spectacular during the wet season months of December to April when the vloume of water going over the falls is tremendous but visibility is better in the drier months with less mist and spray.
