Victoria Falls

The Falls known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya which translates as “The Smoke that Thunders” are without doubt one of the worlds true wonders. No trip to this part of Africa is complete without marvelling at the constantly changing waters, getting soaked by the spray, or capturing the famous rainbows on film to show to friends back home.

The Falls are 1.7 km wide and over 100 metres high, at peak times 10 million litres of water plunge over the edge every second. Below the Falls the waters of the Zambezi are forced between the towering cliffs of the Batoka gorge creating a series of rapids which offer world-class white water rafting.

The view of the Falls from the Zimbabwean side is totally different to the Zambian side and visitors should, if time permits, view the Falls from both sides of the border to appreciate the true majesty of this world famous attraction.

The tourist infrastructure in this area is well developed with a huge range of exciting activities available to suit every taste including Microlight, helicopter and small aircraft flights over the Falls, bungee jumping from the road bridge into the gorge, canoeing down the river above the Falls, sundowner cruises on the river as well as fishing trips in search of the formidable tiger fish.

The area is close to Hwange National Park and also Chobe Game Reserve in Botswana both of which make for an excellent day trip. There is quite lot of game in the Victoria Falls area and Elephants and other wildlife are regularly spotted on the roads and on river trips along the Zambezi River.

We offer a choice of four and five star hotels located close to the Falls with all the usual facilities or for those who would prefer a smaller more tranquil location we offer some small exclusive lodges both above and below the Falls.
