Kenya Coast
The Kenyan coast is lined with pristine white sand beaches fringing the warm inviting waters of the Indian Ocean. Here the wilderness meets the sea, and the ocean itself holds a world of spectacular coral reefs teeming with life and colour.
The coast is a place with a long and exotic history, its calm blue waters the traditional passage of the Arabian Spice Trade with many Arab and Portugese forts dotted along its length, testimony to the importance of the region as a gateway to the interior of the continent.
This blend of natural beauty and the living history in the old parts of Mombasa and Lamu create an exotic paradise unlike anywhere else on earth.
The beach and bush combination is always popular with Safari Club clients and for many people represents the perfect combination of excitement and adventure followed by total relaxation in a tropical paradise.
The Kenya Coast or Lamu Archipelago can easily be combined with any of our safari camps and game lodges in the Maasai Mara, Laikipia, Meru, Amboseli and other National Parks using the good air links between the game reserves and beach resorts.
Safari Club prefer to combine smaller more boutique style hotels away from the more heaviliy developed areas immediately south and north of Mombasa. Here our clients can enjoy the superb beaches away from the attention of the numerous beach vendors found in the more developed areas of the coast.
The coastline south of Mombasa is a tropical paradise of palm fringed white sand beaches, where the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean meet beautiful coral reefs.
The protective reefs have created ideal beaches with calm, inviting waters. Days are filled with sunshine and nights are balmy and warm with gentle sea breezes.
The offshore reefs are alive with coral, myriad fish, sea turtles and dolphins. Both outer and inner reef walls offer world class diving with spectacular coral gardens and drop offs. At Kisite-Mpunguti, a Marine Reserve has been established around beautiful Wasini Island, an ideal day trip for divers and snorkellers.
To the North of Mombasa are a string of peaceful tropical beaches with Watamu some two hours away perhaps the most interesting of all with an excellent marine reserve and the opportunity for some world class big game fishing for shark, tuna and marlin.
