DELORAINE HOUSE

Deloraine is the home of Offbeat Safaris founders, Tristan and Cindy Voorspuy. It is full of Kenya’s fascinating history. Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, came to stay here on a number of occasions. Built by Lord Francis Scott in 1920, a prominent early settler instrumental in developing farms throughout Kenya and set in 3500 acres of farm, it is one of the finest examples of colonial architecture in Kenya. Your time here will reflect the elegant lifestyle of a bygone era.

Deloraine is located on the western edge of the Great Rift Valley on the lower slopes of Mount Londiani. It is within driving distance (45 minutes) of Lake Nakuru National Park, famous for its flamingo’s and rhino, and Lake Bogoria another beautiful park.

Tristan and Lucinda Voorspuy have lived here for over 15 years with their two children. Immaculately run by Cindy, guests are welcome to join in with the house party atmosphere. Upstairs there are 3 large bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms and a further 2 bedrooms suitable for a family wanting to share a bathroom. Downstairs the large drawing room and dining room provide the ideal setting for a house party with an outside veranda that overlooks the beautiful tropical gardens. There is also a cottage adjacent to the house with 3 separate double en-suite rooms.

Deloraine is the headquarters of Offbeat Safaris’ Mobile Riding Safari operation. Their yard and stables, with approximately 80 horses, boasts some of the finest polo ponies in Kenya. Guests are welcome to ride around the farm and the nearby mountains providing spectacular views across the surrounding countryside. There is also a cross country course and a polo ground. Finally guests can also go on a full day’s game drive with picnic lunch to Lake Nakuru National Park. Other activities include magnificent gardens, a croquet lawn, tennis court and a swimming pool.
