A safari holiday in Namibia is a safari holiday with a difference. Namibia is known for its remote and intimate lodges, interaction with the indigenous people, as well as the wildlife, and offering unique opportunities to become involved with the cultural heritage of all its peoples. Namibia also has some of the most stunning landscapes found anywhere making Namibia much more than just a wildlife viewing destination.
Namibia is a country of startling contrasts straddling two great deserts: the Namib, a sea of red sand lying along the Atlantic coastline, whilst in the eastern interior of Namibia lies the Kalahari a vast and sparsely vegetated savannah sprawling across the borders of several countries.
Distances in Namibia are great and although the roads are in good condition, time is required if you want to see the most interesting areas of Namibia. We would suggest that a minimum of ten nights is allowed for a short tour of Northern Namibia with more time if you want to visit the dunes at Sosussvlei. For a more comprehensive tour possibly including the Fish River Canyon and Luderitz two to three weeks is ideal.
Namibia can be visited as part a small group safari by road, or a combination of road and air. The good roads make self driving in Namibia a realistic and relatively inexpensive option. For families and groups of friends a privately guided safari with your own personal driver/guide is a great option. Flying Safaris are also possible but as the distances are large and visitor density is low, many areas can only be visited by private charter flight which can be costly. The best time to visit Namibia is probably the cool and dry months between April and September, it can get very hot in October and November prior to the rains, although the country can be visited at any time of year.
The many national parks and game reserves boast a huge variety of wildlife in a kaleidoscope of differing environments: Giraffe amble across the blinding white saltpans of Etosha national park, Oryx plunge headlong up impossibly steep red dunes at Sossusvlei, and seals in their many thousands colonise lonely beaches along the Skeleton coast. Astonishing contrasts are everywhere giving the visitor an array of sights, sounds and smells to savour which are unique to a safari in Namibia.

The Namib Nakluft park includes the Mountain areas of the former Nakluft Mountain Zebra Park, the wetland reserve of Sandwich harbour, the Namib desert park and the magnificent apricot coloured high dunes of Sossusvlei in which area most of our safari camps are situated.
The visually stunning areas of Damaraland and Kaokaland are included in most safaris, located in one of the best wilderness areas in Namibia and home of the desert elephant and the seriously endangered Black Rhino.
The Kunene River which borders Angola is very remote and is the only permanent water source for many miles. This area is the home of the Ovahimba people a tribe which still live the nomadic lifestyle of their ancestors. There is an opportunity to meet these fascinating people and to learn about their traditions and lifestyle.
The Skeleton Coast is a place like no other, inhospitable but hauntingly beautiful, named after the many shipwrecks that litter this coast. The area of Namibia has hidden sources of water which ensure that life, often in unusual adaptations, can exist here.
Any safari in Namibia should include Etosha Pan, the premier wildlife area, very rich in game and home to both black and white rhino as well as, leopard, lion and cheetah. Clients travelling to or from Etosha often like to stop at the Africat foundation at Okonjima for a night or two to see at first hand the work being done to save and rehabilitate wild cheetahs and other animals.
