Anglo Zulu War Battlefields
Safari Club consultants were recently privileged to visit the world famous battlefields at Rorkes Drift and Isandlwana in KwaZulu Natal in South Africa, a perfect short add-on as a self-drive or fly-in trip after a safari in the Kruger, Sabi Sands or KwaZulu region of South Africa.
The battles, so graphically represented in the films Zulu and Zulu Dawn are brilliantly brought to life in the locations where they happened by the spellbinding storytelling of the guides at Fugitives Drift.
In a place where 14 Victoria Crosses were awarded for courage and valour above and beyond the call of duty, eleven of which were for the courageous defence of the mission station at Rorkes Drift, it is hard not to shed a tear or two.
The location itself is stunning and the lodge at Fugitives Drift has some fascinating memorabilia, very comfortable rooms and superb cuisine.
