Safaris:

Enlightened conservation policies and a good local market for wildlife experiences and safaris have ensured that South African game reserves are well managed and well stocked where you have an excellent chance of seeing the big five. South Africa’s parks have a well maintained road infrastructure and good air links making them easy to combine or visit for a short or long safari trip.

The most popular area for a safari is the Kruger National Park and the surrounding private game reserves of Sabi Sands, Timbavati, Manyelete and Thornybush all of which have superb wildlife.

Also popular with the benefit of offering a malaria free safari are Madikwe and the Waterberg region which can easily be combined with each other or with Kruger. Shamwari in the Eastern Cape is another superb privately run, malaria free park easily combined with a Winelands and Garden Route self drive trip.

Sports Tours:

South Africa is sports mad and holds many International sports events including the British Lions Rugby Tour in 2009 and the FIFA Soccer World Cup in 2010 and cricket test matches. Safari Club will build an itinerary around these events and can also cater for specialist interests such as scuba diving, fishing, golf and horseback safaris.

Whales, Sharks and Scuba:

The coast of South Africa has excellent shore based whale watching or you can cage dive with Great White Sharks in the ocean near Cape Town and along the Garden Route. The more tropical shores of KwaZulu Natal have some excellent scuba diving on pristine reefs many of which are only now being explored.

Battlefield Tours:

A guided tour of the Boer war or the Anglo Zulu war battlefields gives a fascinating insight into the history of modern South Africa. Particularly interesting are Rorkes drift where 11 Victoria crosses were awarded in one day and made famous in the film Zulu and Isandlwana the site of Britain's worst ever defeat in a colonial war.

Beaches and Coast:

South Africa's lengthy coastline has many lovely sandy beaches and coves as well as some spectacular coastal scenery. Some of the nicest beaches are along the Garden Route and also on the Wild Coast. The beaches of KwaZulu Natal are more tropical with those in the remote northern Mputaland area being virtually untouched by tourism and the seas warmer than elsewhere. All along the coast often rough seas and plentiful sharks make swimming opportunities limited. There are many good surfing areas of which Jeffreys Bay is best known and fishing is also popular throughout South Africa. There are also a number of spectacular coastal walks to suit various levels of fitness the best known of which is the Otter Trail on the Garden Route.

Cape Town:

The vibrant cosmopolitan city of Cape Town with its spectacular location is high on most visitors "must see" list. The city itself has enough to keep the visitor interested for several days with Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated for many years and the Waterfront with its boutique shops and lively restaurants well worth visiting. Any visit to Cape Town should include a cable car trip to the top of Table Mountain.

The surrounding Cape Peninsula is also very interesting and a good self drive trip could include a drive along the Atlantic Seaboard via Chapmans Peak Drive visiting Cape Point, the old naval base at Simonstown and the penguins at Boulders Bay.

The Winelands:

The Winelands can be visited on a day trip from Cape Town but a couple of days staying in one of the charming towns or at a vineyard will give the visitor the chance to fully appreciate this scenically beautiful area and to visit a few of the many vineyards in the area. Franschhoek and other towns of this region are also famous for their excellent range of restaurants many of which are based in local vineyards and showcase the finest local produce. Prices are much lower than in equivalent restaurants in Europe and will suit all budgets.

The area is ideally located for a few days stopover on the way to the Garden Route.

The Garden Route:

This stretch of coastline in the Western Cape is an area of lakes, rivers, lagoons, forest and beautiful coastal scenery. The area is relaxed and easy to visit and also contains some of South Africa's finest golf courses.
