KATUMA BUSH LODGE

Located in the centre of the park, on an elevated point over looking the vast plains of Katisunga, Katuma Bush Lodge consists of spacious and comfortably furnished tents on elevated platforms, each with writing desks, lamps, fine linen and ensuite facilities offering hot and cold water. The lodge has been designed to blend in with its surroundings to avoid distracting from the beauty of Katavi.,

There is plenty of game to be spotted on the open plains in front of the tents and in the late dry season the game is espescially prolific.

Game Viewing is exceptionally rewarding at Katavi due to the sheer abundance of wildlife, normally there is an early morning game drive followed by brunch and then a second game drive in the late afternoon.

Game drives are in open 4 X 4 vehicles and centre around the woodland areas along the seasonal lakes, where most of the game can be found including the big cats and also the river which teems with large crocodiles and hippo.

Short guided walking safaris leaving in the late afternoon when the light is at its best are also available from this camp.

Tasty three course meals are served in the boma and there are regular barbecues  served under the shade of tamarind trees which can be enjoyed while watching the sun setting over the plains. 

For those that want to get even closer to nature,  fly camping – sleeping in the bush with just a mosquito net between you and the stars is also on offer. With more than 4,000 sq km to explore, fly camping means that you can discover even the most remote and distant areas of this stunning park.

This comfortable bush camp is often combined with a few days chimpanzee trekking at its sister lodge, Kungwe Beach Lodge in Mahale Mountains National Park or a visit to the Selous, Ruaha or Serengeti National Parks which are a stopover en route to this remote area.

In our opinion the best time to visit Katuma Bush Lodge is between July and October when the park has dried out, the grass is shorter and the game is concentrated around the permanent water sources
