Kwihala Camp

The camp is a seasonal camp located in the heart of Ruaha National Park near to the Mwagusi river. Kwihala Camp is a combination of raw African safari and luxury, designed for those who would like to be that little bit closer to the wildlife and the excitement of Africa, but who still crave creature comforts. Kwihala offers something unique to Ruaha National Park, a raw and yet luxurious safari experience.

Kwihala Camp is a small camp of just six, well-spaced tents giving guests a very private opportunity to enjoy this magnificent park well off the beaten track of the main 'big game' circuits of East Africa.

Constructed out of light sand coloured canvas and covered by a shade producing fly sheet the tents are designed to blend into the environment and to cause as little disturbance as possible to the natural fauna and flora. Furnished with proper beds - either double or twin bedded - with bedside tables, a dressing table, space for luggage and hanging space, floor rugs and even curtains - this forty square meter canvas home is a far cry from crawling into a bivouac tent. The power is generated by solar panels with each tent having its own veranda and flush toilet.

The guiding at Kwihala is excellent. Kwihala works with a handful of top freelance professional guides in rotation. Each guides their own private safaris around Africa, but each comes to work at Kwihala for several months at a time. These highly trained and passionate guides have very extensive wildlife experience, in Ruaha and elsewhere and their skill and enthusiasm will ensure an excellent safari experience for guests.
 

Kwihala combines a simple charm with high standards and the feel of a very elegant bushcamp. Aside from the comforts, good food and service, it is Kwihala's excellent guiding in this fairly remote park which are the real draws here.

Kwihala Camp will combine very well in a two centre safari with a similar camp in Selous Game Reserve such as Selous Impala Camp to make a very varied and authentic wildlife experience.
