KAFUNTA RIVER LODGE

Kafunta River Lodge is set in riverside forest on the banks of the Luangwa River in the game management area overlooking the South Luangwa National Park. Kafunta River Lodge is an owner managed lodge offering a good level of personal service and creature comforts in a classic Safari Lodge. The owners live at the camp and the management is "hands on" ensuring the camp is well run and efficient.
Accommodation comprises eight ensuite private chalets which are built on raised wooden platforms under a thatched roof, with mahogany floors and walls. Each has a private verandah with stunning views.
There are also two newer and very nice stone chalets which are suitable for families and honeymooners.
In the centre of Kafunta River Lodge is the spacious bar and dining area with a large deck. Built around a semi-evergreen wild mango tree and thatched in the traditional style, it offers panoramic views over the Luangwa River and the South Luangwa National Park.
Adjacent to the bar is the small pool and the only natural hot spring tub in the Luangwa valley. The unique hot spring tub owes its existence to the fact that Kafunta River Lodge was built on top of a natural hot spring offering a constant temperature of 38 degrees.

The lodge overlooks the Luangwa River and later into the dry season when the water has receded the floodplain. The area has very rich wildlife and excellent game viewing from the deck of your chalet or the public areas is gauranteed.
Kafunta River Lodge has its own pontoon giving access to the more remote areas of the Park on the opposite riverbank without the need to drive to the main gate ten kilometers away.
Kafunta River Lodge also own Island Bush Camp which is located about two hours game drive from the the Lodge in the South of the park and from which exciting guided game walks are conducted. A few days at the charming but somewhat rustic Island Bush Camp can greatly enhance the overall experience of a safari at Kafunta River Lodge.
We say Kafunta is a very good value, mid range safari lodge in a good location with most creature comforts on hand. An ideal starting point for visits deeper into South Luangwa National Park.
