Tarangire National Park in the dry season can be very rewarding indeed in terms of wildlife sightings, this is a classic East African Park and scenically very attractive.
During the dry season the fierce sun sucks the moisture from the landscape, baking the earth a dusty red and the Tarangire River shrivels to a shadow of its wet season self. This permanent water source ensures that Tarangire is teeming with wildlife at this time.
Impressive huge herds of elephants in their hundreds scratch the dry river bed for underground streams, while migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest and eland crowd the shrinking lagoons.

In addition to the park there is a migration corridor connecting Tarangire with nearby Lake Manyara. This a private concession area and provides some high quality game viewing.
The best time to visit Tarangire is in the dry season months between June and October during the wet season the animals are widely dispersed.
The best time to visit Tarangire National Park is undoubtedly the dry months between July and October when the area experiences its own migration as animals converge on the Tarangire River the only source of water in the area and the game viewing is spectacular.
Apart from elephants that are normally around throughout the year many animals migrate out of the reserve during the wet season and the game viewing can be disappointing. Prices are much lower at this time
At the start and finish of the dry season the game viewing is good but less spectacular than during the main dry season months.
