This superb eight night safari visits two of Africa’s most extensive and pristine wilderness and conservation areas, Selous Game Reserve and Ruaha National Park. Both of the huge and varied Parks and reserves, featured have rugged and beautiful scenery and spectacular wildlife. These areas receive only a tiny fraction of the visitors to Tanzania’s justifiably famous Northern parks and provide a glimpse of Africa as it was when the first explorers set foot on African soil. 

A short flight from Dar Es Salaam takes us to the Selous Game Reserve a protected area covering most of South East Tanzania and as with both the parks on this safari you can expect superb game viewing and few other tourists. The big attraction of the Selous is the possibility of fly camping, guided walks and game viewing by boat on the magnificent Rufiji River. Activities which are not possible in most of Tanzania’s other parks. 

For the second part of your safari you will fly to Ruaha National Park, now Tanzania’s biggest park following its recent extension. This truly vast area contains a large cross section of Tanzania’s wildlife with both Northern and Southern species found here in healthy numbers. Despite its size there are presently only a few small camps and lodges, ensuring exclusive game viewing in most areas of the park.

This safari explores the game rich central area of Kafue National Park and two remote areas in the north of the park staying in small owner managed camps.

Your exciting odyssey starts at a luxury camp on the banks of the Kafue River, time to relax and unwind whilst enjoying the excellent range of activities both in 4×4 safari vehicles and on the river before heading to more remote parts.

The second part of your safari visits an area of the park only recently opened up to the public in an area known amongst the rangers in Kafue as “Eden” because of its untouched wilderness and perfect environment for wild creatures to flourish. Your tiny four room camp is set on a lagoon nestled in a large stand of massive riverine trees overlooking an immense dambo, guests can sit and watch the diverse and large congregations of wildlife from the comfort of their chalet or whilst having a drink on the deck, from herds of elephant frolicking to the hundreds of puku keeping an eye out for one of the resident lion prides in the area. You will be very unlikely to see other vehicles on your game drives.

The final part of your Kafue trip takes you to the fabled Busanga Plains, only accesible from July to October  this wetland paradise is home to fantastic wildlife and is a great birding location. Your stay here is in a tiny three room,  tented camp which is comfortable but quite rustic on the southern edge of the plains.

A feature of this safari is the superb personal guiding by the camp owners and the variety of wildlife that me be seen which includes all the big cats, excellent wild dog sightings and some of the rarer large antelope including sable, roan, sitatunga and eland.

Set in the heart of Africa’s great plains in Kenya, the Maasai Mara boasts 1,672 square kilometres of unspoilt wilderness offering great game and bird-viewing year round. The Maasai Mara is a place of natural drama and a kaleidoscope of colour but is most stunning between July and October, when the savannah teems with animals during the ‘Great Wildebeest Migration’. Boasting an exceptional population of lion, leopard and cheetah, one may also see elephant, buffalo, hyaena, black-backed and side-striped jackals, as well some unique antelope: topi, Thompson’s gazelle and Grant’s gazelle amongst others.

Your next stop is the Mosi Oa Tunya National Park near Livingstone where you will be able to enjoy game viewing within the park as well as a visit to Victoria Falls and boat safaris on the river. Year round you may see impala, giraffe, white rhino and buffalo, while in the drier season herds of elephant come down to drink from the river and even swim across to the other side. The birdlife along the Zambezi is diverse with African finfoot, half-collared kingfisher and Schalow’s turaco being special finds.

Your third stop is Hwange National Park,  Zimbabwe’s largest and most popular national park, a diverse area that is shared between desert-adapted and woodland species, ensuring large numbers of animals all year round – elephant, buffalo, sable, roan, giraffe, wildebeest, impala and even gemsbok. The high occurrence of plains game results in first-class predator numbers such as lion, leopard, wild dog, cheetah, and spotted hyaena.

A thrilling adventure starting at the  the beautiful Victoria Falls, a world heritage site and the stunning Batoka Gorge where you will be staying at a spectacular lodge on the rim of the two hundred metre gorge, home to black eagles and other birds of prey.

You will then transfer to the private Nehimba concession in the scenically attractive northern section of the huge Hwange National Park, home to forty thousand elephants and all of Africa’s major predators, this is also one of the best areas of the reserve to see wild dog. Here you will enjoy superb game viewing and the full range of safari activities in a private concession within Hwange National Park. Your lodge has a wonderful location on the edge of an extremely busy waterhole where you can watch herds of elephant drink, bathe and play just a few metres from your deck.

For the third leg of your safari you will travel by road and rail on the “Elephant Express” with game viewing on route to the Ngamo Plains in the south of Hwange National Park, one of the best areas of the park for game viewing, highlights of which include lion, cheetah, roan and sable antelope.

You also have the option of joining the “Pump Run” on a game drive deep into the park delivering supplies to remote locations. Transfers on this safari are a fascinating combination of road transfers, light aircraft and the “Elephant Express” rail vehicle.

This safari visits Lewa Downs on the Laikipia Plataeu home to the “Big Five” and also one of the best places in Africa to see both species of highly endangered rhino.

Lewa Downs has several rarer Norther species including Grevvy’s Zebra, Beisa oryx and Somali Ostrich and there are fairly frequent sightings of wild dog.
