Uganda Familiarisation Trip November 2018

Uganda is a vibrant safari destination with a difference at the crossroads of Eastern and Central Africa. The biodiversity is a mixture of savanna species and animals and birds more commonly associated with the forest and jungles of Central Africa.

Uganda is very friendly and safe and with bountiful natural resources stunning scenery and some fascinating culture just waiting to be explored.

Unusually Uganda has not followed the trend of pursuing only high-end tourists, there is accommodation for all budgets and even the gorilla trekking is surprisingly affordable. Most of the roads connecting the various tourist destinations are in good condition and there is also an expanding air network.

The two biggest attractions in Uganda are the Mountain Gorillas undoubtedly the highlight of any visit and Chimp trekking, where you can come into close contact with wild but habituated chimpanzees, a hugely underrated experience.

Uganda has many other primates, most of which are not …

Zambia Kafue Visit June 2018

June is one of my favourite times of year in this part of Africa. Lovely warms sunny days with temperatures in the mid-twenties are complimented by cool evenings. Colours are still bright and the bush still green following the rains which usually finish around March.

By June, dwindling water supplies are drawing the wildlife closer to Zambia’s beautiful rivers providing excellent and easily accessible game viewing.

On this trip we visited Zambia’s three best known reserves, South Luangwa National Park in the East, Lower Zambezi in the south and Kafue in the centre area.

Compared to other top safari locations, Zambia’s parks are relatively unknown, visitor density is low and there are just a few relatively widely spaced safari camps, particularly outside of the central Mfuwe area of South Luangwa so you really do feel as though you are pioneers in wild Africa.

October Newsletter 2017

The enduring fascination of a safari holiday is that no two safaris are ever the same. wildlife, culture, scenery vary from country to country and park to park and season to season. Is it the anticipation before setting out on a game drive, boat safari, or walk, never knowing quite what you will find but secure in the knowledge that there is a very good chance that you will experience something new and wonderful?

As a veteran of more than fifty safaris with visits to most of Africa’s great parks the feeling of excitement anticipation starts from the moment I start planning my next trip and doesn’t leave me until I board the final charter flight at the start of my journey home. If you have been to Africa with Safari Club you will know the feeling, many of our guests return year after year forsaking the trappings of Western civilization …

14 Common Misconceptions About Safaris

At Safari Club, we’re dedicated to helping people learn more about safaris, and potentially embark on their own adventures to explore Africa. However, a lot of people seem to have pre-conceived notions about safari trips, and Africa in general. We’re here to try and break down some of these common myths, and help shed some light on the subject of safaris and Africa as a whole.

  1. Safaris aren’t safe

It isn’t uncommon to hear or read about violent crime or dangerous parts of Africa in the media, but in fact, most safari parks or nature reserves are far away from the most dangerous corners of the continent. Staying in a reserve also means that you will often have guides with you, who keep watch or take preventative measures to make sure animals keep their distance, although most are actually very wary of humans in general!

  1. It’s very expensive to …

Why We Love Safaris (And You Should, Too!)

The first thing most people think of when they hear ‘safari’ is travelling through an open plain or savannah on the lookout for majestic, wild animals in their natural habitats. However, that is just one of the things that make a great safari! Here at Safari Club, we want to share our love of all things safari, and help people to realise just how amazing an experience it can truly be.

Animal magic

The main attraction of going on safari is, obviously, the animals! Being able to see amazing animals like lion, leopard, elephant, giraffe, zebra and more in their natural habitat is a truly memorable experience. Visiting a zoo and seeing these beautiful creatures in cages cannot compare to seeing them in the wild, where they can behave naturally, without constraints. There is no guarantee to whether you might see the animals either, which can be seen as a downside, …

Safari packing advice: What to bring with you

There are various things that you could be eager to take with you on a safari. However, in the event, you might have to leave many of them at home, while packing other items that you hadn’t previously considered. You need to think very carefully about what to pack, not least because of weight restrictions that aircraft place on luggage, plus other implications that would not apply when preparing for a typical overseas stay. Below are some items that you should prioritise packing.

The right clothes… but not too many of them

In Africa, laundry service is available at many lodges and luxury mobile fly camps, which can helpfully relieve you of the need to pack lots of clothes. Nonetheless, you should meticulously select which clothes you do bring. By way of example, Susan Hack, a writer for Condé Nast Traveller, has revealed that, for a ten-day safari, she will …

A closer look at what South Africa has to offer

South Africa has long been regarded as one of the world’s most fascinating countries – certainly in terms of its unique history and modern cultural variety. Here at Safari Club, we also know that it’s a great place to go on safari – but all of this is only scraping the surface of the full range of attractions that the Rainbow Nation, to use its common nickname, offers. So, what else does the country offer? Below, we take the close look that it deserves.

Cultural variety in spades

It’s wonderfully apt that South Africa is commonly dubbed the Rainbow Nation when you take account of how cosmopolitan its population is. While 79.5% of these residents are Africans, whites comprise a further 9%. The next most common, making up just under 9%, are coloureds, who are descended from white settlers, slaves and Africans. The remaining 2.5% – mainly living …

What to do and where to go in Botswana

If you’re eager to see a range of African animals amongst a wilderness that has not been damaged by human intervention, a safari trip to Botswana is definitely for you.  Hippos, elephants and crocodiles are all in abundance in this country, while there’s also a chance of spotting all of the big cats. You could also find that your money goes surprisingly far during a lengthy stay in Botswana. Below, we go into further detail about various attractions of this southern African country and what you can do and see there.

Chobe Game Reserve

Safari experiences don’t get much more organic than those you can enjoy at Chobe Game Reserve. This National Park has little permanent development, which means that you can enjoy the area much like locals of several centuries ago would have done. The rich riverine forest of the Chobe River front is the setting for one of southern …
