Kenya flag Coastal Region in Kenya

The Kenyan coast is lined with pristine, white sand beaches fringing the warm inviting waters of the Indian Ocean. Here the wilderness meets the sea, and the ocean itself holds a world of spectacular coral reefs teeming with life and colour.

The coast is a place with a long and exotic history, its calm blue waters the traditional passage of the Arabian Spice Trade with many Arab and Portuguese forts dotted along its length, testimony to the importance of the region as a gateway to the interior of the continent.

This blend of natural beauty and the living history in the old parts of Mombasa and Lamu create an exotic paradise unlike anywhere else on earth.

The beach and safari combination is always popular with Safari Club guests and for many people represents the perfect combination of excitement and adventure followed by total relaxation in a tropical paradise.

The coastline south of Mombasa is a tropical paradise of palm fringed white sand beaches, where the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean meet beautiful coral reefs. To the North of Mombasa are a string of peaceful tropical beaches with Watamu some two hours away, perhaps the most interesting of all with an excellent marine reserve and the opportunity for some world class big game fishing. WHEN IS THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO GO?

The Kenya coast has a tropical climate and is pleasantly warm at any time with the heat moderated by the prevailing breeze. The optimum season is normally considered to be between December and February, however most guests visit between July and October when the weather is pleasant but breezier.

DRY SEASON

It can rain at any time on the coast as the area experiences a tropical climate. From November to early March, the coastal weather is dominated by the North East Monsoon which is comparatively dry.

October through to March should allow some wonderful conditions for snorkelling and diving with clear sea water providing fabulous visibility. January through to February can be notably good.

The weather is also stable with a bit more cloud and comparatively cooler temperatures from June to September although the prevailing wind direction does bring large amounts of seaweed onto the beaches at this time.

green SEASON

From mid March to May  the monsoon winds start to blow in an east to south-easterly direction which bring in streams of maritime air from the Indian Ocean and heavy rains.

SHOULDER SEASON

Rain is possible at any time in Kenya but the shoulder season months are usually a good time to visit the coast
