Zambia flag Lower Zambezi National Park in Zambia

Lower Zambezi is located on the Northern bank of the wild and very beautiful Zambezi River opposite Mana Pools national park on the Zimbabwean side of the river which together with surrounding protected areas create a wild and beautiful area of pristine wilderness.

The park comprises a grassy flood plain dotted with thickets and clumps of acacia and is flanked on the northern side by hills and a steep wooded escarpment. There are a number of small dambos which hold permanent water and attract wildlife from the surrounding area.

The area is particularly rich in elephant and buffalo, with huge herds often encountered along the riverbanks where crocodile and hippo are plentiful. Lion can often been seen and their roars can usually be heard at night along with the whooping of hyena. DRY SEASON

From May you’ll experience clear sunny days but temperatures can still be cooler in the evening. Game viewing is good.

Moving into August the days are warmer and the bush has dried out, meaning the game viewing is now excellent and becomes outstanding right through to November!

green SEASON

First rainfall is normally expected in November, still hot and now humid with continued great game viewing.

December see the first thunderstorms with short showers followed by sunny periods and good game viewing.

Regular rain fall continues in January making the bush now green and the grass long. Animals are more dispersed and harder to locate.

Many camps close in January through to March as the bush is now dense.

SHOULDER SEASON

It rains less often in April and by May, clear blue skies herald the beginning of the dry season, days are sunny and the bush is starting to dry out, call us for early season bargains.
