The Eastern Cape region is suitable as a destination in its own right or as a leg of a self-drive or flying safari taking in Cape Town and the Garden Route.
The Eastern Cape contains a number of excellent “Big Five” private game reserves including Shamwari, Kwandwe and Amakhala. Also in the Eastern Cape is Addo Elephant Park which is the third largest national park in South Africa and claims “Big Seven” game viewing with the addition of Whales and Great White shark. The reserves are open year round, and are very well run with excellent guiding and good game viewing in areas which can be very beautiful.
An Eastern Cape safari could include the third largest national park in South Africa, The Addo Elephant Park, home to a dense population of elephant as well as claiming “big seven” with great white shark and whales added to the terrestrial big five.

Scenic diversity is one of the most striking characteristics of the region, ranging from the lush, evergreen Tsitsikamma Forest to the rugged Baviaanskloof Wilderness Area, the southern slopes of the Drakensberg and the arid Great Karoo. Alternating between sweeping sand, river mouths, rocks and coves, the coastline is a paradise for water sports enthusiasts.
Sunshine all year round, fine leisure resorts and splendid facilities ensure that the great outdoors is always in fashion.

We highly recommend Kwandwe Game Reserve for a more authentic safari experience than some of the other reserves in this area. Guests with time should also visit the Tsitsikamma Forest and Storms River Mouth for some fantastic short walks and hiking.
Thinking about your adventure but not sure how to get started, then give our friendly consultants a call.
The Eastern Cape is a year round destination, so when to visit depends on your interests. The winter months from May to September can be quite cold in the game reserves whilst the summer months do get some rain. We are happy to discuss the best time for your travels, please do give us a call.
It can rain at any time in the Eastern Cape but the winter months from May to September generally have clear skies and the days are pleasantly warm. Morning and evenings particularly in June and July can get very cold at this time and you will need to wrap up warm for those early morning game drives.
January through to February are hot and usually dry.
The summer months from October to December experience regular rainfall but it does not rain all the time and there are long periods of sunshine.
March and April are the wetter months although the fierce summer heat will have abated giving way to comfortable temperatures.
