Mozambique is located on the south eastern coast of Africa and is bordered by Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Swaziland. The country has stunning natural attractions including some beautiful beaches and a string of sub-tropical Indian Ocean islands dotted along its 2,500 kilometre coastline.
Mozambique also boasts some of the best diving and snorkelling sites in Africa, many of the reefs were only recently discovered. There are miles of colourful, untouched coral and a multitude of tropical fish species.
It is the perfect destination for ‘barefoot’ luxury with some great boutique properties offering excellent cuisine and a high standard of accommodation.
The beaches around the Quirimbas and Bazaruto Archipelagos are some of the most pristine to be found anywhere. Whilst in the South Bazaruto has a bigger selection of upmarket accommodation and is best accessed from Johannesburg.
Excellent beaches are spread all along the long coastline of the mainland and as a general rule the accommodation is less expensive than the island resorts.
Mozambique also has some large game reserves which were at one time amongst the best in Africa, but which have in the past been heavily poached and rather neglected. Although attempts are being made to revitalise the reserves and improve accommodation, tourist facilities are fairly limited so we would suggest that guests looking for a traditional safari and beach holiday visit Tanzania or one of the Southern African countries and combine this with a week on one of Mozambique’s magnificent beaches.

Mozambique has a tropical climate, meaning it is warm all year round with rainfall tending to be in heavy and short lived showers. December to April are the hottest months at around 30oC, also the wettest and most humid. May to August are the coolest months at around 25oC with less humidity and rainfall. The best time to visit Mozambique depends on your interests. For scuba, December to March is best as the water is said to be clearer. The best time for big game fishing is October to March when the big predators hunt closer to the shore.

The driest time of year is the winter months between May and August when the climate is pleasantly warm and the humidity lower and the early summer months.
The rainfall and humidity during the main summer months can be high reaching a peak in January and February.
By May the rain storms are much less regular and temperatures moderate.
In November it is hot and humid but usually the summer rains have not started in earnest.
