Mainland Tanzania has a long and largely undeveloped coastline with just a few of the stunning beaches developed for tourists. It is the spice island of Zanzibar and its sister islands, Mafia and Pemba lying in the clear blue Indian Ocean off the coast of Tanzania that will appeal to most visitors looking for an idyllic tropical paradise. Their exotic palm fringed coral beaches and Swahili culture will complement your safari perfectly.
Zanzibar is by far the most heavily developed destination with accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets. Famous for once being the commercial centre of East Africa and the last place to abolish the slave trade, today it combines ancient Islamic ruins, noble Arabic houses with miles of white, sandy, palm fringed beaches and coves.

Famous for once being the commercial centre of East Africa and the last place to abolish the slave trade, today it combines ancient Islamic ruins, noble Arabic houses with miles of white, sandy, palm fringed beaches and coves.
For guests looking to get off the beaten tourist track both Pemba island and Mafia Island have very few tourists and feature warm clear blue waters, excellent reefs for snorkeling and diving, fantastic deep sea fishing and water sports. If you thought that wasn’t enough, visiting the Spice plantations (cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, cardamom and others) or haggling for carvings in the traditional markets is great fun too. The food is also delicious often featuring fresh seafood and fish cooked Swahili style.
The beach and bush combination is always popular with Safari Club guests and for many people represents the perfect combination of excitement and adventure followed by total relaxation in a tropical paradise.

For a traditional beach holiday Zanzibar compares favourably with most tropical idylls. Guests looking for a more immersive experience or scuba and fishing should consider the mainland and Pemba and Mafia Islands Call us to discuss the options available
The best time to visit are the drier months between July and November although it can rain at any time usually in short sharp showers. January and February are peak season and also an excellent time to visit. April and May are probably best avoided.
July to October are a nice time to visit the coast and the Islands of Zanzibar, Mafia and Pemba although unlike most of the more temperate inland safari regions the climate is tropical and occasional showers are possible at any time of year.
The dry summer months between December and February are also a great time to visit and conditions are particularly good for scuba diving.
The main rainy season runs from Mid March through to early June and we normally advise against a beach holiday at this time as the monsoon winds and rains can make conditions unpleasant.
In these months there may be a bit more rain but hotel prices are usually lower and most guests will find the climate quite pleasant
