The park is surrounded by a number of private reserves which provide a more exclusive experience than the busy park and formerly large government run camps within the park. Most of the private reserves include game viewing both inside the private reserve and parks.
Etosha is a very large park, it is therefore ideal to visit two or three different areas of the park staying in a combination of private reserves and National park accommodation.

If time permits visit the more remote western section of the national park which has only recently been opened to the general public. It has one of the highest densities of wildlife in the park, although animals here are less used to people and a bit more skittish.
Etosha can be visited at any time of year. The best time to visit is during the dry season from May to the end of October. The summer months from November to April can be very hot with rainfall possible, usually between December and Mid-March.
June sees warm sunny days and cool nights, through to August. The bush is dry and game viewing excellent. Hot sunny days and warm nights develop in September and through to October, the bush remains dry and vegetation is dwindling. Game viewing is outstanding.
January and February are very hot with some occasional rain storms. Game viewing is fairly good. March becomes slightly cooler, occasional rain storms continue.
By April the showers will be relatively rare and the bush green and verdant. By May the rainfall should have finished and daytime temperatures will have fallen to a pleasant level making this a good time to visit with more affordable prices.
